Conflicts in Central Africa are becoming more sophisticated, mirroring broader global trends.
Wars once fought with legacy weapons and sustained through predatory local economies are increasingly shaped by drones, advanced military equipment, foreign mercenaries, and transnational supply chains. These weapons, vehicles, fuel, and other strategic commodities move into conflict zones through complex and obscured pathways, effectively masking external origins and foreign backing.
This session examines the inward flows that sustain contemporary violence in Central Africa. Drawing on field research and case studies, leading experts will unpack how means of violence and war-enabling commodities enter conflict areas, how their movements are structured and concealed, and how these cross-border flows shape the scale and durability of conflict.
